Lenya Heitzig::Guest Speaker, Sept. 30
Wednesday, September 17th, 2008Dear Ladies,
It is a privilege and blessing to have Lenya Heitzig with us for a special ladies’ event on Tuesday, September 30th at 7:30pm. Lenya is the wife of Pastor Skip Heitzig and the director of the Women at Calvary women’s ministry. She is the coauthor of the Nehemiah study guide we are currently using and has written and co-authored many resources for the Women at Calvary Bible studies. She has authored Holy Moments, which brings a deeper awareness of God’s work in our lives. Lenya is a gifted teacher and has a passion for helping women deepen their understanding of the Bible and their relationship with Jesus Christ. Don’t miss this great opportunity to join us for this special evening.
Following is a brief biography.
Lenya Heitzig was headed for a promising career in fashion merchandising when God changed her direction. After a lifetime steeped in agnosticism, Lenya became a Christian in 1978, joining the Jesus Movement in Southern California.
Her training for ministry was forged on the anvil of servant leadership. She joined Youth With a Mission (YWAM) in 1980 as single women’s counselor and discovered that ministry is not just telling people how to act but serving them as cook and secretary. Helping to establish a Christian coffeehouse in the red light district of Honolulu and sharing Christ’s love with prostitutes and pimps taught Lenya compassion.
After YWAM, Lenya married Skip Heitzig, a California surfer on his own spiritual journey. In 1981 they headed to the Southwest and settled in Albuquerque. Their home Bible study quickly blossomed into Calvary of Albuquerque, which now sees over 10,000 people in weekly attendance. The Heitzigs share a passion for world missions, and they have traveled together to Japan, India, Rwanda, Israel, Jordan, Mexico, Honduras, and Europe spreading the gospel.
Lenya’s gift in teaching and communicating truth paved the way for a thriving women’s ministry to impact women throughout the Southwest. Lenya has served on the executive board for a Billy and Franklin Graham Crusade and directed the Southwest Woman’s Festival, has shared the conference podium with such speakers as Kay Arthur, Elisabeth Elliot, Florence Littauer, and Anne Graham Lotz. Lenya speaks regularly for Women at Calvary and as a conference speaker for seminars throughout the United States and Europe.
Skip, Lenya, and their son, Nathan, live in Albuquerque and continue this exciting path God has set them on.
