Thursday Recap

Hey family!

Yesterday morning, our guest speaker arrived at camp. Pastor Ken Graves, from Calvary Chapel in Bangor, Maine. If you went to the CCk service on Wednesday night, then you know how great this pastor is.

All of us knew that he was coming. Some of us just forgot. So when that big, booming voice of his sounded and came up and started teaching, we had to take a little bit to process what he was saying. Once he got rolling, there was no stopping him. He continued to teach and we just keep receiving what he had to say. Everything he said applied directly to our lives and explained so much of human creation.

He interacts really well with us, and sits with all of us at lunch. He was there for the night activities and watched in awe at the activities that we had to accomplish. He makes us laugh all the time, tells us stories and illustrations that are easy to understand, and he asks questions that he wants answers for from the audience. He kept teaching so long, in fact, that our games were cut short.

It was great to be around him, and he will be with us again today. I can’t wait to hear what he has to say to us about creation and our God and how to apply everything to our lives. God is doing a major work in us all. Keep praying for us, especially on this last day.

With much love,
Aimee

Wednesday Recap

Back by popular demand… Here’s Aimee with another update. :)

Hey parents and family!

Another day has passed by. I can’t believe its already Thursday!

Yesterday was great. The morning teaching was done by Richard Gray and he shared with us how he was transformed by God. It was an amazing and powerful testimony of the work of God. Later, we played the games. There were 4 new games to play and since there are 8 teams, each team rotates playing 2 games a day. The games, like Monday and Tuesday, are messy and wet, but that’s what makes them so much fun. The first game was the Wet Hat Relay. That’s why all your kids are wearing construction hats with cups on their heads. The second was called Blind Chef. That’s why you see some kids wearing ketchup, chocolate syrup and Froot Loops on their faces. Another was the Tasty Cake Relay. That’s why you see a bunch of kids running with a pound cake. And then the last was the Sticky Spellers… without spelling. That’s why you see everyone with a diaper over their heads grabbing those play pen balls and putting them on the floor. I’d do each game over and over again. Another thing about the games is that you can see the unity in the teams and cabins continuing to develop. Everyone loves to sit and eat with each other, hang out with each other, and we’re just coming together as a group really well.

This unity was seen at its best at the night teaching. Like every year, Pastor Jose does an afterglow service on Wednesday night. Its a night of prayer with leaders and with each other, and worship. I started crying because everyone was actually singing and worshipping God. It was an awesome time. So many people came up for prayer and it was a great time to be with each other and help each other in our walks with God. Hopefully the words that were said will be put into action.

Then we played our game. The leaders humiliated themselves with a game they had to play themselves involving soda crackers, Sprite, and a song that repeated the words “Istanbul” and “Constantinople”. And then it was the teams turns. There was a relay where each player in a team had to down 4 Twizzlers. I stopped at 2 thanks to my reflexes… if you understand what I’m getting at.

Overall, it was a productive day. Physically, and more importantly, spiritually. We’ll see what happens today!

with much love,
Aimee

Tuesday Night Recap

Tuesday Night we had beef fajitas for dinner. It was awesome. I need to take some pictures in the cafe so you guys can see how we eat. AND WE CAN EAT!

During the evening service we had a skit. Then more great worship followed by Pastor Scott’s awesome message. He had all the kids on their toes. He really “Claunched” them.

For the games it was Trivia Theme Night. First we had the teams play Jeopardy Uth Nation Style with questions ranging from the Bible to Pop Culture. Then we turned it around and let the kids ask the Uth Leaders some questions. Did you guys know that Michi broke her Clavicle when she was 3? And that Oscar was a cab driver! At the end all the leaders shared a bit of their testimony which was as powerful as it was diverse. God works in mysterious ways and definitely with some mysterious people. ;)

All in all I think we’re becoming a big family and the kids are really opening up. I see more and more counseling and prayer happening after the services. We appreciate all the prayers and encouragement. God is breaking down walls. He is showing up BIG TIME.

Tuesday Recap from Aimee!

Ok guys… Here’s an “authentic” recap from one of the campers themselves. Not only is she a camper but she is also on the worship team, media team, cabin leader, and… she’s on my sniper team for paintball. Just kidding George and Laura. :) She even taught a Devotional!

So here’s Aimee Cuevas to give you a little different perspective.

___________________________________________________

Hey parents and onlookers of our amazing Uth Nation!

This post is a little bit different. This post is written by me, Aimee. Now you can have the perspective of a camper instead of the Media Guy.

Anyway, camp is really going well. I’m not that much of a game player, and the games are actually extremely entertaining this year. Props to Tito! My only wish is that we had the game “Steal The Messy Bacon”. Pictures would’ve come out amazing and you probably would not have recognized your kids or friends. But the games are really fun and we’re having a good time bonding with our teams. Its only  been 2 days and I can already see our team coming together as one group. I guess that explains our winning streak!

Another really great time is cabin time. We’re supposed to be in our cabins at 10pm and lights out is at 11. What do we do in between? Other than getting ready for bed, which only takes 15 minutes, we have a discussion time. As you may or may not know, we go through 3 teachings every day. One devotional (boys and girls separated), then a morning teaching and then a night teaching. So when it comes down to discussion time, there is a lot to talk about. The girls in my cabin are really opening up to each other and sharing what God has been showing them through the day. And these girls are young. Even though I’m young myself, its amazing to see girls that are younger than I am really understanding what God is saying through teachings. It never really ceases to amaze me how much they can grasp and take to heart. Parents of the girls in my cabin, props to you. You have raised them to love the Lord with all their hearts and its a joy to be around them.

I speak for myself, as well as the other campers, when I say that we are exhausted! We’re sore, we’re sunburned, bruised from paintball and just tired of being awake for so long. After the last teaching, we always look forward to the end of the night activities because of bedtime. Nonetheless, camp is an amazing experience. We’re learning things about ourselves that we never knew… and we know we need to change. And you want to know what the beautiful thing is? We’re seeking God for wisdom in how to deal with those things, because we want to be transformed.

Hopefully I’ve given you a glimpse of what is going on in the hearts of your kids. Everyone here is different, but we’re united under Jesus Christ, and He’s the One that transforms us in the way we should go. Continue to pray for us, your kids and friends, that we would have wisdom, discernment and that we would fall completely in love with God all over again… and that it would stay that way.

With much love,
Aimee
